The Truth that Sets You Free

“The truth has not so much set us free, as it has ripped away a carefully constructed facade leaving us naked to begin again.”

– Lisa Unger

Laurie leaves corporate America

Have you ever started over? Did you wonder how in the world you were going to overcome fear, that kept telling you that things weren’t really that bad? That little voice inside, that kept insisting your partner/job/situation, wasn’t really awful enough yet, for you to take the risk of changing?

If you are like, “Oh man, I feel you!”, then read on.

The title of this blog post, (my first ever!) sums up where I am, at this moment in life – overcoming fear to embrace whats next. One of my favorite yogis, Jennifer Prugh, reminds us often in yoga practice, to begin again.

I’ve taken the massive steps of hanging up my Ferragamo heels from decades as a corporate exec, to dive headfirst into the next chapter in life (deep breaths).

The time has come for me to overcome fear, embrace life and pursue my passions! I am passionate about helping and serving people like you and me, who know there is more to life.

Here we are in 2021, which many of us hope will be a better year than last (understatement!).

What do you want most from your life – are you there? If not, is the time to change now? Are you ready to overcome fear? Are you ready to really embrace life?

I know we can, but ask yourself, “Are you ready to be brutally honest with yourself?”

If you’re saying, “Alright I’ve got this!”, then look in the mirror and be truthful

with yourself, about where you are versus where you want to be. You’ve heard it before, awareness is the first step

As you seek your own path forward, please invest time in yourself, through study of the masters.

By no means an exhaustive list, here are a few amazing resources that have been profoundly impactful in my life:

Aware that my life reflected my past and not what I really want now, I’ve pulled the ripcord to align my life with my values.

“As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.”

– Rumi

Leaving the supposed safety of a long-term corporate career, then embarking on a serious purge: letting go of emotional baggage and physical possessions (no one needs 120 pairs of shoes!): I embrace life.

Focusing on my own-self care and wellness, I embrace life.

Spending quality time with those I love the most – my awesome kids, family and friends – I embrace life.

All in order to be my best self and to serve: serve myself, my family and you!

At this point, you may be wondering, “What the…” Who quits their high-paying job in the middle of the global pandemic?

IT. IS. TIME. Are you with me…

The Transformation Begins

Friends are both excited and supportive, although a few have lovingly asked if I’ve gone off the deep end! Other friends have reached out unexpectedly, to see how I overcame my own fears to start over and how they can too.

Once you’ve been honest with yourself and are aware of where you are in life versus where you want to be, look within your heart for answers.

How to leave the illusion of safety, from the corporate grind and big paycheck, as I have done.

Or how to leave the relationship, that was merely a stepping stone in your life, when you know in your heart it’s time to move on.

Or how to let go of those long-held self-limiting beliefs and old behavior patterns, that no longer serve you.

Time to step up. Overcome fear. Embrace life. It’s time to live!

I’ve lived a full life, most of it with my game face and armor on – full-time. I can feel some of you saying,“Yea, me too!”

Suffice it to say, I learned this as a kid, like many of us, in order to survive my traumatic childhood. Imagine my surprise, when my therapist texted me this:

“I’m not screwing around. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go. Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts.”

– Brene Brown

Now make the sound of a car coming to a screeching halt and you get how I felt at that moment. I literally asked myself, “Who had been following me around and how did they write about me through another person’s experience!”

Make A Commitment To Yourself

You Have The Courage To Begin Again notebook

A profound sense of discontent, is often the spark gets me to take steps forward in life. I finally get to the point of being so fed up, that I will do anything to change.

Do you feel me? Is this you too?!

Time to make a personal commitment to ourselves. Time to embrace life, the good, the bad and the ugly. Let me tell you, the road will not always be easy, especially for hard-heads like me.

Are you ready?! Are you done procrastinating and making excuses for why you’re not living your best life? Let’s do this!

As my new path unfolds, I’ll walk it with you—rambling through the laughs, tears, triumphs and struggles along the way.

When life gets heavy, you’ll find comfort here. When you’re craving inspiration or a good story, you’ll find both.

“We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life…”
